Luxury River Cruise

Many people have toyed with the idea of taking an ocean cruise to the Caribbean or some other luxurious resort area, but have you ever thought about taking a luxury river cruise?  Many enriching experiences are available to the person who takes a small luxury river cruise.  Exciting cultural centers and major cities are located on rivers throughout the world.   Many rivers and their tributaries run through the same areas that people take bus or driving tours.  Rather than taking a bus tour, you may want to consider the unique experience of a river cruise.

The ships for these tours are much smaller than the ocean liners, but they are well appointed.  The small size usually allows for a relaxing slow pace down one of the many rivers of the world.  This gives passengers an amazing opportunity to relax and take in the scenery slowly.  A small river cruise ship doesn’t mean you will be subjected to any less quality than a large ocean-going cruise ship.  These ships can furnish their passengers with almost everything a larger luxury ship can.

Amenities can include private baths, private balconies with incredible views, bars, lounges, and exercise rooms.  Many river cruises include period décor and luxurious cabin appointments that take one back to the history of the area.  Thus comfort and convenience are combined with historical flavor to give one a truly unique experience.  Special dining opportunities with dishes native to the region being explored are often offered, as well as nightly entertainment that may be modern or that takes one back to the historical era.

As one can see, a luxury river cruise can provide one with a cultural experience that can be had no other way.  Rivers were often the first roads that really connected major metropolitan areas.  The views offered are unique and can’t be duplicated by a road tour.  Many cruises include historians and other experts who educate and entertain passengers.  Their informal lectures are informative and interesting, and many also lead interesting excursions with historical narratives. Fascinating shore excursions and shopping opportunities abound on this type of cruise.  This allows one to experience the local culture and natural beauty.

Another reason to choose a small river cruise is the flexibility offered.  Cruises can last anywhere from a couple of hours up to months.  Your own availability and budget can find one that perfectly fits your desire for an exciting vacation.  Depending on where in the world you wish to travel, you can find luxury river cruises available at almost any time of the year.  When planning your next vacation, keep this fun and relaxing vacation idea in mind.

River Cruises

River Cruises

Are you going on vacation, and yet, ideas of what to do evade you? Are you waiting for the weekend, but all that greets you is yard work? Consider river cruises, an activity that can be done in a day, or a weekend. River cruises encompass everything you need for a fun, relaxing vacation; scenic views, music, gambling, and catering.

Riverboat cruise can be done anywhere there is a river, from the Mississippi’s wide green stretches, to the red rock canyons of Moab, Utah, to France’s canals through historic architecture, even down the Amazon.  A cruise down a river is slower, showing each rivers unique formations, and idyllic views. Often there is a guide, telling stories of the formations, cities, history, or landscapes, giving each river its own personality. There may be food, drink, or entertainment involved, keeping things interesting and fun.

When choosing a river cruise, think about the type of activities you want to indulge in, and who you are going to enjoy the river with. Some cruises are geared toward families with children, others specific to couples, and still more that are for groups of friends. Thinking about this will keep you from a cruise that is otherwise inappropriate for you.

Some river cruises are themed, and the area or culture of a place dedicates the themes.  Think about if you want to participate in a themed trip, or if something more low key and relaxing is right for you. Whichever you choose, you will be sure to have a great time.

The season you choose is another important aspect of riverboat cruises.  Some boats will not have an indoor hub in which you can escape the weather. Choosing the proper tour in the winter or summer months is imperative to your enjoyment.  The foliage of an area or the temperatures can make the decision easier. Fall months are perfect for changing leaves, summers fantastic for settling into a cool river, and the winters can illuminate the snow against different backdrops.

Some cruise lines are larger and must remain on large rivers. Others are small, and can move from island to island, or through canals, giving intimacy and depth to an area.   Thinking about where you want to go, and what, exactly, you want to see, is a good idea before booking the cruise.

Whatever river cruises you choose, you are guaranteed a good time, and memories that will last you.  And, as for the yard work, well, that can wait until Monday.

Riverboat Cruising

I knew I needed a vacation and I thought a cruise to another country sounded nice, but I read an

Riverboat Cruising

article on riverboat cruising and it gave me a whole new perspective on cruising.  I had no idea you could get to many of the well known and not so well known historic and beautiful inland locations by boat.  Better yet, you can find a cruise down a river on most of the higher populated continents with navigable rivers.

I needed to find more information on what was available and how I could sign up for one of the cruises.  It was amazing how many sources of information were available and in publications I usually read.  The Sunday newspaper this week was running some advertisements in the travel section for riverboat cruising.  The advertisements provided phone numbers to call to be placed on a mailing list to regularly receive flyers with information on the latest cruises being offered: dates of the cruises, costs for the boat cruise, description of the accommodations available, flights to the embarkation point.  There was also a web site that you can go to to get this information.  Another source I found was a magazine like Sunset that has information in every issue about different travel opportunities including river cruises all over the world.

I was pleasantly surprised at the number of trips available to sign up for.  If I wanted to I could take a trip every month of the year.  You can find cruises down the Danube, Rhine, and Elba rivers in Europe, the Columbia, Snake, and Mississippi rivers in the United States, the Yangtze and Mekong rivers in Asia, the Nile River in Africa, and the Svir River in Russia offered through companies like Viking River Cruises, Cruise West, and other sailing companies.  You just need to find the one that offers the amenities you want and/or can afford.  They also offer different sizes of sailing vessels.  Riverboat cruising sounds so exciting!

Riverboat Cruises

The Riverboat Cruises are both fun and relaxing.  While all your needs are attended to, you

and your accommodations move through some of the most picturesque landscape available anywhere.  Riverboat cruising provides memories you wont soon forget and inspire you to make plans for your next adventure.

Spring is already here and we’re moving quickly towards the first day of summer so I hope everyone’s started thinking about what boat cruise they would like to take this summer season.  There’s a lot to think about in order to decide where you want to go and how many cruises you might be able to take.  You probably have about four months of nice
weather.

If you can only take one cruise this summer begin by deciding which area in the world is most interesting to you right now.  Consider the history of the towns you’ll be visiting as you cruise down the river. Think about what kind of land excursions you want to take each time the boat docks.  Decide how long you want your riverboat cruises to be – one week, two weeks, longer.  Be sure to go on-line to the web sites of the cruise lines that offer these small boat cruises and order their brochures that give the details about the accommodations on the boats.  Some are more elegant than others.  You can also get less expensive rooms on some of the boats that have the more upscale staterooms.  The brochures will give you the details about the prices of the staterooms.  They should also provide pictures of the rooms.  Each brochure from the companies offering the voyages, such as Cruise West, will provide a breakdown of all the
costs and what exactly your fare will be providing.  It’s amazing all the little costs involved that you don’t usually think about.

If you are considering an overseas cruise it would be a good idea to check the cruise lines’ web sites.  Each foreign country has their own entry requirements and the cruise lines web sites will provide the information you need to know about such things as visas, vaccinations, money exchange rates, etc.  If you haven’t gotten a passport yet, you better get a move on.  You need one to get in and out of all the countries.  After applying for one, wait time until you receive it can vary.  Lots to do before your riverboat cruises begin!
